Texas Porch
Vehicle Registration Practical

Register your vehicle through the Midland County Tax Office

Texas stopped requiring safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles as of January 1, 2025. Midland County is not an emissions testing area. So if you drive a regular car or truck here, you do not need any inspection before registering. You will still pay a $7.50 Inspection Replacement Fee when you register. State law requires this fee everywhere in Texas for non-commercial vehicles.

You can renew your registration online at txdmv.gov. You can also go in person to the Midland County Tax Office at 2110 N. A St. Commercial vehicles are different — they still need a commercial inspection no matter what county you live in.
