Vehicle Registration Practical

Vehicle Registration Runs Through the Terry County Tax Office

Need a plate, registration sticker, title transfer, or disabled parking placard? Start at the Terry County Tax Office at 500 W. Main Street, Room 106, in Brownfield. Land and building values go to the Terry County Appraisal District on West Powell Street instead.

If you just moved to Texas, register the vehicle within 30 days. A regular personal vehicle in Terry County does not need a safety or emissions test before registration. Texas ended safety tests for noncommercial vehicles in 2025. Terry is not one of the state's 17 emissions counties. Commercial vehicles still need a passing safety inspection.

Bring a current photo ID, proof of insurance, the out-of-state title or registration, and a completed Form 130-U. Fees and payment methods vary by county, so call 806-637-7534 before driving in. This office also lists boat registration and renewal. Vehicle papers and property-value questions still go to different counters.
