Before You Build in Brownfield, Start With the City Inspector
Inside Brownfield, a building permit is a city job. Take the city's permit form and fee to the Inspection Department at 201 W. Broadway. The posted fee schedule starts home and business permits at $30. Other fees depend on the job's size or value.
The department checks homes, businesses, and industrial work for building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes. It also handles city code and zoning work and helps the Zoning Commission. County property records and value questions go elsewhere.
Call 806-637-4547 before work starts. Ask whether the job needs a permit, which inspections apply, and when to schedule them. Use the current city form and fee page, not an old saved copy. A question while the job is still on paper is easier to solve than one after a wall is closed.
