Vehicle registration goes through the county tax office

Vehicle titles and registration go through the county tax office at 110 South Main Street, Room 101, in Lockhart. Eligible drivers may renew online as early as 90 days before the sticker expires.

The rule changed in 2025. Most personal vehicles in Caldwell County no longer need either test before renewal. Work vehicles can be different. A commercial vehicle still needs a commercial inspection. The TxDMV page handles routine renewals. The county office handles title work and jobs that cannot be done online.
