Which Harris County Vehicles Need an Emissions Test
The model year is the first thing to check in Harris County. Most gas vehicles that are 2 through 24 model years old need a test each year. Testing starts with the vehicle's second birthday. Electric and diesel vehicles, motorcycles, and mopeds do not need this test.
A covered vehicle must pass or meet another program rule before it can be registered. TCEQ lists waivers and more time for some owners. Use the DPS station finder for a shop. Keep the test report until the renewal is done.
