Tyler State Park trails carry a Civilian Conservation Corps story

The ground you walk at Tyler State Park was shaped by young men in the Civilian Conservation Corps back in the 1930s. They planted the pines that line the Whispering Pines Trail and laid up a wading pool and a small waterfall, all of it still standing more than 70 years later.

The trail system loops the spring-fed lake and slips back through the forest. Along the way you'll pass the Lakeshore Trail, a bird observation blind, a CCC rock dam visible from Trail C, and a stone overlook with a view back over the water, natural rock and timber set by hand during the Depression.

Pines, lake views, hand-built park craft, and wildlife on a single outing: that's more than a quick lake stop. Grab the trails map ahead of time and you'll know which loops lead to which stonework.
