Town Creek gives Weatherford an in-town green line

Town Creek is the kind of trail that explains a city better than a road map. It opened to the public in summer 2011 and runs 4.34 miles through the tree line of the creek. The route is still inside Weatherford, but it pulls you behind the busy streets and into the shade that follows the drainage.

The trailheads tell you how it fits the town. You can start at Town Creek Bridge on Santa Fe Drive, the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce on Fort Worth Highway, Holland Lake Park on Holland Lake Road, or Bose Ikard Elementary on Ikard Lane. That puts the trail between school, park, business district, and old highway, which is a very Weatherford piece of geography. A short out-and-back can start from any of those doors.

Not every Parker County outdoor place is a lake or a state-park drive. Town Creek is everyday outdoor access: a weekday walk, a bike ride after work, or a quiet stretch through the trees on a summer evening. With four trailheads along 4.34 miles, the route works for a shorter out-and-back as well as a longer walk across town.
