Quanah Hill is Weatherford's hand-built rough trail

Quanah Hill is the rougher side of Weatherford's park system. The trailhead sits at 809 West Lake Drive, and the route serves mountain bikers, hikers, and trail runners who want natural surface instead of pavement. This is not the same feel as Town Creek's paved in-town path.

The Weatherford Mountain Bike Club started in 2014 as a citizen volunteer group focused on sustainable multi-use nature trails in city parks and the Parker County region. Volunteers built the whole 7-plus-mile Quanah Hill trail by hand, including rock-armored sections where a short stretch can take a lot of labor. That hand-built origin shows up in the close turns and rough surface.

The land tells on itself along the route. Users can hit mud, shifting rock, roots, steep grades above 10 percent, stream crossings without bridges, bluffs, low vegetation, steps, and narrow passages. That gives Parker County a local trail where the challenge is part of the place, not a flaw in it, right there in town. For local riders and runners, the roughness is the point.
