McLennan County Has a Long History of Tornadoes

The NWS Fort Worth/Dallas office maintains tornado climatology records for McLennan County going back to 1880. The county is exposed to severe thunderstorms, large hail, and tornadoes, especially in spring. The 1953 Waco tornado killed 114 people and destroyed hundreds of buildings downtown.
