Most Denton County anglers need a license, but the exceptions matter
At Ray Roberts and Lewisville lakes, most anglers age 17 or older need a Texas fishing license and a freshwater endorsement. Children under 17 are exempt, whether they live in Texas or not. TPWD lists a few other exceptions.
The first Saturday in June is Free Fishing Day. Anyone may fish public water that day without a license or endorsement. You may also fish without one from a bank or pier inside Ray Roberts Lake State Park. Park entry fees and all size and bag limits still apply. Buy a license online, at a TPWD office or state park, or from an approved seller.
