Outdoor Burning
Burning brush in unincorporated Denton County needs a permit
Open burning here changes with the weather and with burn-ban status, so a neighbor's old burn-pile routine is not a safe guide. Denton County requires residents in unincorporated areas to buy a controlled burn permit before any open outdoor burning.
Even with the permit, you can only burn on days the county marks as suitable, a call it makes each morning between about 8 and 9 a.m. The county directs residents to its Emergency Services office and its burn-control process for the day's instructions, and state TCEQ outdoor-burning rules apply on top of that.
Before lighting brush, confirm you are actually outside city limits, check the day's burn status, and keep an eye out for a county burn ban. City rules and a ban can be stricter than normal open-burn conditions.
