Brazoria's Superfund Record Mixes Active and Former Sites

TCEQ's Brazoria index names eight places. They are Aztec Mercury, Camtraco Enterprises, EmChem, Force Road Oil and Vacuum Truck, Gulfco Marine Maintenance, Harkey Road, James Barr Facility, and McNabb Flying Service. Seven are current or former state cases. Gulfco is handled through the federal EPA program. That is why all eight should not be called state Superfund sites.

The case status matters. Harkey Road was cleaned and removed from the state list, with no more state action needed. Camtraco is still in operation and maintenance, and its plume is still watched. Other cases were cleaned, removed, or moved to the state's voluntary cleanup program. Removal from a list is an agency step. It does not erase what happened there.

If a property is near one of these names, open that site's own page. Check its location, pollutants, current step, and agency contact. Then compare the record with the parcel, title papers, and any environmental report. Do not treat one site as a verdict on a whole neighborhood.
