Septic work in unincorporated Denton County needs a county permit

Some homes outside city limits use public sewer. Others use a septic system. The county calls it an on-site sewage facility, or OSSF. If an unincorporated property uses one, get a county permit before you install, repair, extend, or alter it.

Denton County Environmental Health checks the plans. The office also does the final inspection. Do not use the system until the owner gets a Notice of Approval. A system that needs ongoing care also needs a form placed in the county deed records. That paper alerts later owners.
