Springs Park
San Pedro Springs Park Is One of San Antonio's Deepest Civic Landmarks
The Spanish government set San Pedro Springs Park aside for public use back in the 1700s, green space dedicated to the public before the United States existed. It is the oldest park in San Antonio, and the springs it's named for are the same ones that watered the early settlement.
None of that has frozen it into a monument. There's a swimming pool, about two miles of trails, sports fields and courts, a playground, a skate plaza, a senior center, restrooms, and Wi-Fi: a working neighborhood park that happens to sit on ground older than the country.
For anyone living near downtown, Monte Vista, Beacon Hill, or San Antonio College, it's an everyday place to swim and walk with three centuries underneath. The pool runs on a seasonal schedule, so a hot August Saturday and a quiet January afternoon are two very different visits.
