New Rural Structures Need a Collin County 9-1-1 Address

A rural address is more than a number for the mailbox. It's how a dispatcher tells a fire truck where to turn. Collin County assigns a 9-1-1 address whenever a structure goes up on, or is moved to, a previously vacant site, and the rural address application rides along inside the permit package through Development Services.

More buildings count than you'd guess. Houses, mobile homes, barns, shops, garages, businesses, even water towers and cell towers can each need their own 9-1-1 address, because each is a place someone might one day call for help from.

If you're adding a structure on acreage, knock out the address step with the rest of the permit package rather than scrambling for it later when utilities, deliveries, or an ambulance need a location. For something already built, the county's GIS/Rural Addressing staff can usually look up the assigned address, unless it's tangled up with a pending permit question.
