Paying Polk County Property Tax Online Isn't Instant
Tatum White's office, the Polk County Tax Assessor-Collector at 416 N. Washington in Livingston, is who you pay, not the appraisal district. The easiest way is the Tax Office's property search at esearch.polk-tax.com: look up your account, pay by card or e-check, done. Card payments carry a 2.40% service fee, which on a few-thousand-dollar bill is real money, so some folks still write a check.
The thing to watch is timing. Clicking 'pay' isn't the same as the money landing on your account. Card payments take two to three business days to clear and post; e-checks take five to six. If you're paying right up against the January 31 deadline, that lag can be the difference between on-time and a penalty.
So if you're closing on a house, clearing a delinquent balance, or just cutting it close at year-end, don't trust the receipt screen alone. Call the tax office at 936-327-6801 and confirm the account actually shows paid before you assume it's settled.
