Two Offices Handle Your Property Tax in Moore County
At 419 Success Blvd. in Dumas, the Moore County Appraisal District puts a taxable value on your house, your land, and pretty much everything else you own out here. Chief appraiser Janie Starkey's office also runs the exemptions, including the homestead exemption that knocks the taxable value down on the home you actually live in. File the homestead application once (with a copy of your driver's license or whatever ID the Property Tax Code asks for) and it rides on the rolls year after year. No re-filing every spring.
The bill and the payment go somewhere else entirely. Over at 500 S. Dumas Ave., tax assessor-collector Chris Rivera prints what you owe and takes your check. Two addresses, two jobs, and the split is exactly where people get tangled. When your value comes back looking too high, the folks at 500 S. Dumas can't do a thing about it; the protest goes back to the appraisal district on Success Blvd., the same office that wrote the number down. So aim for the right counter. A wrong guess means a second drive across town to start over.
