Out on FM 3168 in Raymondville sits the Willacy County Appraisal District, the office that decides what your house and land are worth for tax purposes. The bill itself comes from somewhere else entirely — the Tax Assessor-Collector, a few blocks over at 192 N. 3rd Street. Same town, two doors, two jobs, and people mix them up all the time.
The split matters the day you think your value is too high. You don't argue the number with whoever cashes your check; you take it up with the appraisal district, because they set it. Exemption applications also run through the appraisal district, generally filed before May 1.
