Private-sale title transfers go through the Travis tax office

A car bought from a private seller must be titled in the buyer's name within 30 days of the sale. Late transfer penalties can apply after that deadline.

Get the seller's signed title with the sale date and odometer reading, plus a signed Form 130-U showing the sale price. Bring ID, proof of insurance for registration, payment, and a lien release if the title shows a paid-off lien.
