Over-65 Property Tax Freeze in Comal County

Once you turn 65, Texas school districts must give you an extra $60,000 exemption on top of the regular homestead exemption. Your school taxes are also frozen — they cannot go up unless you add improvements to the home.

You do not have to wait until January 1 of the year you turn 65. You can apply as soon as you become eligible. File the application with the Comal Appraisal District. The same $60,000 extra exemption applies if you have a qualifying disability.
