Over-65 and Disabled Homeowners Get an Extra Exemption

A Lubbock County homestead can carry more than the basic exemption. Homeowners who are 65 or older, or who qualify as disabled, can add another exemption. As of 2025, the added school-tax exemption for these homeowners is $60,000. Check the current amount with Lubbock CAD because state law can change it.

You apply with Lubbock CAD. The district accepts forms and proof in person, by email, by fax, or by mail. Lubbock CAD also says there is never a fee to apply for an exemption.

If you recently turned 65, became disabled, or bought a qualifying home, ask LCAD which form and proof fit your case. The exemption has to be on file before it can lower the tax bill.
