Renew Your Orange County Plates Online Within the Window

Once you're inside 90 days of your expiration date, there's no reason to drive to the 6th Street office for a routine renewal. Orange County lets you do it online and mails the new sticker to your door. The same web renewal can update your address if you've moved within the county, or to another Texas county that handles renewals online.

Have three things ready before you start: proof of a current insurance policy, a passed inspection on file, and a card. The county tacks on a $2 processing fee and a $1 charge for postage and handling, which is still cheaper than a wasted trip.

TxDMV gives you a generous runway statewide. You can renew up to 90 days early, and even as much as 12 months late, as long as you haven't already been ticketed for expired tags. If your situation is anything but a plain renewal, whether a lost sticker, a title issue, or a name change, skip the web form and deal with the tax office directly.
