Watering Rules
Most Collin County Lawns Follow NTMWD Watering Limits
The North Texas Municipal Water District supplies much of Collin County's treated water through member cities and customers. NTMWD says member cities and customers must follow a permanent outdoor watering schedule, but the exact watering days are designated by the local water supplier.
The district's minimum schedule limits spray irrigation with sprinklers or irrigation systems to no more than two days per week in summer, from April 1 through October 31, and no more than one day per week in winter, from November 1 through March 31. NTMWD also says summer lawn irrigation should not run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For homeowners, the key is to check the city or water provider tied to the address. Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Wylie, rural systems, and MUDs can publish their own assigned days while still using the NTMWD framework.
