Special District Taxes Practical

Many Montgomery County Neighborhoods Pay MUD Taxes

Many Montgomery County subdivisions use Municipal Utility Districts, often called MUDs. A MUD can pay for water lines, sewer, and storm drainage. Then it can add its own line to the property tax bill.

The county has well over 100 MUDs, especially near The Woodlands, Porter, and newer suburbs. Two houses close together can sit in different MUDs with different rates.

A new MUD that just built pipes may carry a higher rate than an older one with less debt. The Comptroller directory and MCAD record name the MUD for a specific lot. That name helps you judge the monthly payment.
