Nature Preserve

The County Nature Preserve Is a Quiet Pruitt Road Greenway

Tucked behind the county recycling facility at 1122 Pruitt Road in south Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Nature Preserve is an easy-to-miss patch of woods and meadow. The county describes it as a place for bird watching, native plant study, and hiking, with looped trails reaching toward Spring Creek.

The 71-acre greenway is permanently protected by a conservation easement held by the Legacy Land Trust. It is free to visit and open to the public daily, and in spring it draws migrating songbirds and the birders who follow them.

It is a useful bit of local texture. South Montgomery County is mostly big roads and busy subdivisions, but it also keeps small green spaces like this one, where you can learn the plants, birds, and creek patterns of the area. Confirm directions on the county parks page before you go.
