Nature Center
Miller Springs is the free trail land below the Belton Lake dam
Just below the Belton Lake dam and spillway, in the old Tennessee Valley, sits one of Bell County's quieter outdoor spots. Miller Springs Nature Center is a 260-acre natural area that straddles the line between Belton and Temple. It is open to the public free of charge, every day of the year, which is rare enough to be worth knowing.
More than 10 miles of trails wind through the preserve, divided into loops, so you can take a short walk or a long ride depending on the day. The land has limestone outcrops, wetlands that draw birds, and views back up toward the dam. People come to hike, bike, fish, and walk dogs.
It is a good reminder that this county is not only highways, post housing, and boat ramps. A few minutes from town you can be on a quiet trail along the Leon River. Check the City of Belton parks page for current conditions and any closures before you head out.
