Killeen Trail
The Andy K. Wells trail was Killeen's first hike-and-bike path
Killeen is a city built around Fort Cavazos, commuting, and wide fast roads, so a dedicated walking and biking path is a real amenity. The Andy K. Wells Hike and Bike Trail, 2.5 miles long and starting near 2201 E. Veterans Memorial Boulevard, was Killeen's first.
It exists because of a gift. Kenny Wells donated 9.115 acres for it, and the city named the trail for his father, the late Andy K. Wells. The plan is for future extensions to keep the Wells name as the trail network grows, with a long-term hope of eventually linking toward Lake Belton and Stillhouse Hollow.
For residents, it is a simple, repeatable place to walk, run, or ride without driving out to one of the lakes. It also says something about how Killeen has grown: parks and trails like this one are a deliberate counterweight to a city otherwise laid out for cars. Check the Killeen parks page for current access and any event closures.
