Where to Get a Marriage License in Orange County

The County Clerk's office at 801 W. Division in Orange is where you go for a marriage license, not the courthouse downtown and not the tax office. They're open weekdays, 8 to 5, except Wednesdays when the doors don't open until 8:30. The phone is 409-882-7055, and it's worth a call ahead if you're driving in from Vidor or Bridge City just to confirm what ID to bring.

Texas runs a 72-hour waiting period between getting the license and saying your vows, so don't leave this for the day before the wedding. The clerk's window is for issuing the license. The staff there will tell you straight that they can't help fill out the form or give legal advice; that part is on you.

If one of you genuinely can't appear, whether deployed, out of state, or laid up, Orange County keeps an Absent Applicant affidavit on its forms page that lets the missing partner apply by proxy. It's a real, notarized document, not a workaround, so handle it well before the ceremony date rather than the week of.
