Hurricane Harvey hit Victoria County hard in 2017

Harvey made landfall near Rockport in August 2017 as a Category 4 storm. It then moved inland just north of Victoria. The Victoria Regional Airport recorded a peak wind gust of about 59 mph (51 knots) early on August 26, and some areas received more than 17 inches of rain in a short period. About 40 to 50 power poles snapped along State Highway 77 in the county.

The flooding triggered flash flood warnings across the county and damaged homes and roads. Harvey drove home how vulnerable a corridor Victoria County sits in.
