Coleto Creek is Victoria County's working reservoir and weekend lake

Coleto Creek is a working reservoir with a public recreation side. It sits midway between Victoria and Goliad and serves as the cooling pond for the Coleto Creek power plant. At normal pool, the lake covers about 3,100 acres and traces 61 miles of shoreline.

The public park opened in February 1981. It covers about 190 acres, with roughly 40 acres developed for camping, cabins, pavilions, picnics, swimming, and trails. GBRA directs public boat access to a four-lane ramp, and a lighted 200-foot pier gives anglers a place to fish from shore. The result is neither a natural river lake nor just a utility pond. It is a local lake day built around working water.

GBRA also names the conditions that come with it. Numerous stumps and logs remain below the surface, alligators live in the reservoir, and some areas are marked no-wake, no-boat, or keep-out. Shoreline outside the park is private or posted. Those are calm reasons to use the marked public facilities and pay attention once the boat leaves the ramp.
