How to Apply for a Homestead Exemption in Tarrant County

A homestead exemption reduces the taxable value of your home. You file once with the Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD), and there is no fee. You must own the home and live in it as your main residence.

Extra exemptions are available if you are 65 or older, have a disability, or are a disabled veteran. A homestead also caps how much your appraised value can rise each year, with the limit set at 10 percent. Apply at tad.org or call TAD's exemption line at 817-284-4063.
