Rainbow Trout Are Stocked Below Canyon Dam Each Winter

The cold water released from Canyon Lake creates good conditions for trout in the Guadalupe River. TPWD stocks rainbow and brown trout in that stretch each year, typically from early December through early March. Several public access points let you fish there.

Guadalupe Park, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is open year-round and free. Some access points are seasonal leases. Certain river sections require artificial lures only and have catch limits. Check the TPWD trout stocking page for current rules and stocking schedule before you go.
