North Texas GCD well rules cover all of Denton County

Denton County lies fully inside the North Texas Groundwater Conservation District. District rules require all wells to be registered. Non-exempt wells also need a permit. The rules treat exempt and non-exempt wells differently. Ask the district which approval applies before drilling, deepening a well, or changing its pump or output.

Owners of non-exempt wells must use a meter. They report total use every three months from monthly readings. Check the water provider and well record for the actual parcel instead of guessing from its address.
