Groundwater Rules Apply to Water Wells Here
Most of Lampasas County sits above the Trinity Aquifer, a major underground water source. The Saratoga Underground Water Conservation District (SUWCD) manages that groundwater. The district was created by HB 3122 in 1989. It is a single-county district covering all 714 square miles of Lampasas County. If you plan to drill a new well or pump more water, you may need a permit from the district before you start.
Rules can change. Before buying rural land or drilling a well in Lampasas County, check the district's current rules. The Texas Water Development Board lists the Saratoga UWCD as the local authority for this area under GMA 8.
