The George Observatory at Brazos Bend State Park opens Saturday nights for stargazing

The George Observatory sits inside Brazos Bend State Park near Needville, about 45 miles from downtown Houston. It is part of the Houston Museum of Natural Science and opens Saturday nights year-round when weather allows.

On a clear evening, the park shifts from alligators and wetlands to telescope lines after dark. Visitors can explore the cosmos through high-powered telescopes, which gives Fort Bend a public night-sky stop without leaving the county.

Tickets work differently from a normal state-park stop. The observatory ticket must be bought online before you go, and tickets are not sold at the park.

The park day pass is separate. Brazos Bend charges $7 for visitors 13 and older, while children 12 and under are free. A full park or a cloudy sky can change the plan, so make the reservation pieces before the drive.
