Food Permits

Food Permits Depend on Where You Operate

Where you set up decides who issues your health permit. Collin County itself permits food service (restaurants, food stores, schools, day cares, mobile vendors, and temporary events) only in the unincorporated county and in the city limits of Wylie, Melissa, Lowry Crossing, Weston, Josephine, and Farmersville.

Operate anywhere else in the county and you apply through that city instead, not the county. A food truck that works Plano one weekend and Wylie the next can end up dealing with two different permitting offices for the same business.

For pop-ups, school events, and small storefronts, the cheap mistake is paying for a booth or signing a lease before you know which door to knock on. The county's Food Service and Health page tells you whether your address runs through Collin County Citizen Self-Service or through the city, so settle that first, then book the space.
