Know who maintains your road in Smith County

If a road has a number like FM 14, FM 344, or US 69, it is a state highway and TxDOT is responsible for it. If the road is in an unincorporated area without a state number, it is a county road maintained by Smith County.

Knowing this matters when you report a pothole or need a driveway connection. County roads require a culvert permit from the county. TxDOT handles access permits for state roads. Roads inside city limits are the city's responsibility.
