Some parts of Midland County have flood risk from South Draw
South Draw is dry until it is not, which is the West Texas flood problem in one sentence. Midland County uses Flood Damage Prevention Regulations and a permit process for floodplain work. In 2021, the county adopted the Monahans and South Draw Interim Flood Planning Framework for those drainages.
Before buying or building, start with FEMA's flood maps. If the property is in a Special Flood Hazard Area, your lender will require flood insurance. Contact the Midland County Public Works office for information about local floodplain permits.
