A Flood Map Beats a Guess Near the Brazos and Bosque
Rivers and creeks run across McLennan County, but a nearby creek does not prove that a home sits in a flood zone. Search the street address in FEMA's Map Service Center. Open the current map panel and any newer letter that changes the map for that lot.
Some rules depend on whether the city or county takes part in the National Flood Insurance Program. In a member area, a federally backed home loan requires flood insurance when the building is in a high-risk A or V zone. FEMA says nearly one-third of NFIP claims from 2014 through 2024 came from outside today's high-risk zones. Ask the lender and insurer what the exact building needs.
