Nine Different Taxing Units Can Appear on Your Tax Bill

The Texas Comptroller's Mitchell County directory listed nine active taxing units as of its January 28, 2025 update. The list includes the county, three school districts, three cities, the Lone Wolf Groundwater Conservation District, and the hospital district.

Your parcel pays the units that cover that address. A place inside Colorado City can carry a city line, a school line, county taxes, and special-district taxes. Rural land outside town may skip the city rate but still owe other local units.

That is why two nearby parcels can have different bills. The tax office applies the rates to the value set by the appraisal district, so the useful question is not just the county rate. It is the full stack attached to that property.
