Parts of Williamson County Fall Under Edwards Aquifer Protection Review

The line to look for is not a city limit or a subdivision gate. It is the Edwards Aquifer recharge, transition, or contributing zone. TCEQ regulates work in those zones because the aquifer's caves, fractures, sinkholes, and sinking streams can move surface pollution quickly into the water.

On a western Williamson County tract, an Edwards Aquifer protection plan can come ahead of clearing, grading, or building. For Williamson, Travis, and Hays, EAPP questions run through the Austin Regional Office at 512-339-2929. The program sits under 30 TAC 213 and uses both administrative and technical review.

The useful tool is TCEQ's Edwards Aquifer Map Viewer. It lets you see whether a site is in a regulated area and print a map for an application. If the map puts the tract in a zone, a county permit or contractor bid does not replace TCEQ review.
