Getting a Disabled Parking Placard Through the Rusk County Tax Office

A disabled parking placard in Texas is a county-level errand, and in Rusk County that means the Tax Office at 202 North Main in Henderson. The form is the VTR-214, and the part you can't do yourself is the disability statement: a doctor or health care provider has to complete that section before the office can issue the placard.

How long the placard lasts depends on the disability. A temporary placard (red) is tied to a recovery period; a permanent one (blue) is good for longer and renews on its own cycle. The renewal is where it gets easier. To renew a permanent blue placard you don't need the doctor's signature again. You complete page one of a new application and bring in your expiring placard or your original paperwork.

Fees are minimal, and the first permanent placard is free. The same office issues the disabled-veteran and other specialty plates if a plate fits your situation better than a hangtag. Call the auto desk at 903-657-0338 if you want to confirm what to bring before you make the trip in.
