Development Permit

Building in unincorporated Denton County starts with a development permit

A barn pad, pond cut, culvert, cell tower, pool, or house add-on can put rural Denton County land in the permit lane. The rule is for unincorporated land. It covers buildings, mining, dredging, filling, grading, paving, excavation, drilling, and storage of tools or materials.

The form is about the tract, not just the job. It needs the owner's name, the property description, and a site plan. That plan must show new and existing work. It must give the distance to at least two property lines. It also must show any septic system already on the land.

The permit desk is at 3900 Morse Street in Denton. The phone line is 940-349-2990. A mailing city is not the same as city limits. The county rule depends on whether the land is outside a city. Sort that out on the map, not after crews show up.
