Cooper Lake State Park: Camping and Fishing Near Cooper

The park has two units. The Doctors Creek Unit (95 Park Road 8154, Cooper) is the closer one to the county seat. The South Sulphur Unit is across the county line in Hopkins County. Both units have boat ramps, fishing piers, and campgrounds. The South Sulphur Unit also has 14 cabins with full kitchens. There is a 10.5-mile equestrian trail.

Jim Chapman Lake covers 19,305 acres, and TPWD points anglers toward white and hybrid striped bass, catfish, and crappie. As checked July 3, 2026, TPWD listed day-use admission at $5 for adults, with children 12 and under free. The park says it often reaches capacity, so reservations are the smart move before a busy weekend.
