Hidalgo County Colonias Have a Self-Help Center Program

Hidalgo County named five focus colonias in its 2020 self-help agreement: Balli Estates, Capisallo Park, Cuellar Subdivision #2, Heidelberg, and River Road Subdivision. State law lets each participating county pick five colonias for this kind of focused help.

For those places, the county lists a tool library, solid-waste cleanup, housing repair, and work tied to HOME and Emergency Solutions Grant funds. That makes the program formal. It is tied to named places, current rules, and county paperwork.

If you are buying, inheriting, or fixing up land near one of those colonias, call the Urban County Program staff. Ask whether the address is still in the target area. The named colonias and the kind of help can change when a new agreement is signed.
