Get a Burn Permit Before Burning Brush

Burning a brush pile in Hidalgo County is not a casual backyard chore. Burn permits, burn bans, disposal fires, the exceptions, and the state rules behind all of it run through one place: the Fire Marshal's office at 2814 S. Business Hwy. 281 in Edinburg.

To burn brush you need a permit and one form of ID. Whether you can burn at all on a given day swings with dry weather, wind, and the occasional court order, so burn-ban status is a moving target rather than a fixed yes or no.

Call the Fire Marshal the morning you plan to light up, not the week before — the office tracks the current ban and the Texas outdoor burning rule, including the timing and weather limits a last-season answer won't have.
