Blue Bell Creameries Has Deep Roots in Brenham
In 1907, local dairy farmers formed the Brenham Creamery Company to make butter from excess cream. It later shifted to ice cream and became known as Blue Bell. By 1970 it was the biggest ice cream producer in Texas.
The creamery is still based in Brenham and remains one of the county's largest employers. For a new resident, it is part of understanding the county's identity as both an agricultural area and a place with a well-known food brand grown locally.
