Burton, Texas

Burton is a small city in Washington County, about 34 miles southwest of College Station in the gently rolling farmland between Brenham and the Brazos River valley. The town grew as a cotton-farming community, and it is home to the Texas Cotton Gin Museum, built around the historic Burton Farmers Gin. The gin, powered by a vintage engine, is recognized as one of the oldest operating cotton gins in the country and anchors an annual cotton-gin festival.

Property here runs through the Washington Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Washington County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
