Bergfeld Park keeps an old Tyler neighborhood gathering place active

Bergfeld Park is a small, urban park doing a lot of work in an older part of Tyler. The City of Tyler places it off Broadway Avenue and College Avenue, between Fourth and Fifth streets, in walking distance of long-established neighborhoods.

Despite its size, it's busy. The city lists picnic areas, restrooms, tennis courts striped for pickleball, a playground, an amphitheater, and a sprayground. That mix turns it into a civic gathering place for concerts, lunch breaks, and splash-pad afternoons, not just a patch of open grass.

It shows the other texture of Smith County outdoor life. Some of the county is pines and big water; here it's an amphitheater, courts, and shade near downtown Tyler.
