Southmayd, Texas

Southmayd is a small city in Grayson County in North Texas, sitting along State Highway 56 west of Sherman and about 30 miles north of McKinney, in the gently rolling farmland near the Red River. The community grew up along the tracks of the Texas and Pacific Railway, which crossed the land from which the town took its name. It remains a small residential and agricultural town in the northern reaches of the region.

Property here runs through the Grayson Central Appraisal District and the county tax office — the homestead exemption, the appraisal cap, protests, and any MUD, PID, or special districts all sit at the parcel level. The Grayson County notes below cover the practical details, with the official county directory for the appraisal district and tax office.
